How to play Craps - Craps Strategy
To the uninitiated craps seems very confusing. However, once you know how to play craps, you will find the game to be one of the most exhilarating and rewarding games available in an online casino or any of the Australian casinos in Sydney, Canberra, Melbourne, Brisbane or even Hobart and beyond.
Craps in many ways are a legendary game, immortalised in movies and other pop culture formats sooner or later, everyone will wonder what the attraction is and how to play craps.
It all starts with the basics.
The basics of how to play craps
Craps is a game of chance involving the throwing of dice.
The rules are as follows.
The shooter (dice thrower) must place a bet on either the pass or don’t pass line. The pass line is essentially a win or right bet. The don’t pass line is essentially a loss or wrong bet. He or she then must choose from five pairs of dice. Once a pair is chosen they can’t be changed. The shooter should handle the dice with one hand and throw them against the wall at the opposite side of the table.
The craps game is played in what are known as rounds with each round consisting of two parts. The come out phase and the point phase. In the come out phase, the shooter attempts to roll come out rolls. If they roll a 2 (snake eyes), 3 or 12, they have rolled craps and players lose their pass line bets and the round is over. If they roll a 7 or 11, players win their pass line (right) bets. The shooter will continue to roll the dice until he makes 4, 5, 6, 8, 9 or 10 - this will then become the point.
The shooter then must attempt to throw the point again before throwing a seven. A good craps strategy will involve utilizing various betting options.
How to Play Craps - Betting
The simplest bet to make on the craps table is to place a bet on the pass or do not lines.
A pass line bet wins if the shooter rolls a 7 or 11. It loses if the shooter rolls craps (2, 3 or 12). If the shooter rolls 4, 5, 6, 8, 9 or 10 they establish point. The pass line bet is then won if the shooter rolls point before rolling 7 again. A bet on the don’t pass line works in exactly the opposite way. You win when the shooter loses and lose when the shooter wins. The exception is if the shooter rolls a 12 in which case the bet is tied with house. A win on a pass line bet earns an even money win. A win on a don’t pass line also pays out as an even money bet.
Other bets include:
● Come bet. This bet can only be made after the point on the pass line has been decided. Essentially works the same way as a pass line bet. The only difference being that you can take odds on the bet. The come bet is placed on the next number rolled after the point is established and in effect becomes like a private pass line bet.
● Do not come bet. Works on the same principle as the come bet but in reverse.
● Place bets are bets placed on a number of your choice. The numbers must be 4, 5, 6, 8, 9 or 10. If the number is rolled before a 7 you will win. How much you win will be dependent upon which number you bet on.. A 6 or 8 pays out at odd of 7:6, a 5 or 9 will pay out at 7:5 while a 4 or 10 will pay out at odds of 9:5.
● Field bets are placed for one dice roll only. If a 2, 3, 4, 9, 10, 11 or 12 is rolled, you will win. A rolled 12 will pay triple, a 2 will pay double and all other numbers will pay even money.
● Big 6 and Big 8 bets can be placed on any dice roll and will win if a 6 or 8 is rolled before a 7. The bet pays out at even money.
● Proposition bets are one roll bets , with the exception of the hardways bet.
Any craps bets pay at odds of 8:1 and you win when a 2, 3 or 12 comes up.
Any 7 pays at odds of 5:1 and wins when a 7 is rolled.
11 pays at odds of 16:1 and pays when an 7 is thrown.
Ace Deuce pays at odds of 16:1 and pays when a 3 is rolled.
Aces pays at odds of 30:1 and wins if a 2 is thrown.
Boxcars pays at odds of 30:1 and wins if a 12 is thrown.
Horn Bet is a split bet on the numbers 2, 3, 11 and 12. When one of the numbers is thrown, you will win the odds applicable to that number and lose the bets on the other numbers.
Hardways bets are made on doubles being thrown (thrown hard) for specific numbers. A hardway 8 is a pair of 4’s. You win if a number is thrown hard before it is thrown easy (i.e any other number combination) or any other number is thrown. The odds vary between 8:1 and 10:1.
